Facilities

Our world-class buildings such as the award-winning EEE building, interdisciplinary Mountbatten complex and the Life Sciences building have contributed to the University of Southampton’s status as one of the best learning environments in the UK. These facilities are a result of an investment of £200 million.

Key facts

The University provides a wealth of social, arts and leisure facilities for students.

Off campus, you will find all the transport, shopping and leisure facilities you would expect from a multicultural city with a population of over 200,000 people.

Wireless and networked high-speed internet access is widely available across all campuses and in all five libraries.

Library

The Hartley library, that recently had a £12m extension and refurbishment, is one of the leading research libraries in the UK and is very well equipped. Facilities include a state-of-the-art Learning Centre, with consultation rooms, ‘walk in' internet access, a language study area with computers linked to a range of language software, a popular café and a lounge for more relaxed study. The Library houses both the Law Collection and the Ford Collection of Parliamentary Papers. Increasingly materials are supplied via freely-available electronic means. The Library also has extensive subscriptions to legal databases which are accessible through the internet.

Access to IT

All of our campuses and halls of residence are equipped with state-of-the-art computer facilities. These include high-speed wireless internet access, network points for laptops and public workstations that are available to all students. The Southampton Law School has developed its own intranet and computing courses are regularly offered by the University's Information Systems Services.

Students with a disability, specific learning difficulty or chronic medical condition can take advantage of our specialist equipment and assistive technology.
