Reputation of the University is one of the crucial factors for choosing Southampton. Apart from being an outstanding University in the UK, the University is also a member of the prestigious Russell Group. Having researched the Southampton law school, the teaching staff in Southampton are leading academics in the field. For instance, Professor Sarah Nield is an influential figure in land law in both England and Hong Kong; Professor Yvonne Baatz is a leading academic in maritime law. Thus, it can be seen that Southampton is not only well-known, but also a centre to learn from the best.

The support and assistance provided by the staff in the Law School also made the whole experience enjoyable. Staff members are always there to answer our queries. In order to facilitate a more in-depth discussion, they would encourage students to step out of their comfort zone and slowly develop their judgment and communication skills. This is beneficial in preparing us for a career in the legal sector.

What I enjoy most about studying in the law school is that the programme is intellectually challenging. Undoubtedly, it is hard work each week going through the lecture and tutorial materials. However, the satisfaction that I have acquired after understanding the topic is extremely fulfilling.

In addition to academic study, I have also taken part in a number of extra-curricular activities. For instance, I have taken part in various negotiation workshops during my second year. In addition, I have joined the negotiation competition organised by the Law Society recently. These experiences are all challenging in a sense that they stimulate the work environment in the legal sector. This further developed my self-confidence and analytical skills while working under pressure.

I have also taken part in classes for street dance and break dance every week. It has been great fun having been able to take a break from my studies. There is also a pure dance show each year where every dance society is given an opportunity to perform. I am really glad that I have been part of it for two years now. Being a performer was beyond my expectations when I first entered university. The whole experience has provided an environment to boost my self-confidence by learning to appreciate my techniques and overcoming my stage-fright.

Highlights of my time studying here would definitely be the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. Being an internationally renowned university, students in Southampton come from all over the globe. It allows me to learn and appreciate more about different cultures. I am truly grateful for all the friendships established with people of different nationalities.

It is true that grades are important. However, university life would be more rewarding if you step out of your comfort zone and expose yourself to all types of new opportunities, be it sports, performing or academic or career related. This would provide a great opportunity to form bonds with new people and learn more about yourself.

Southampton is a very serene and peaceful city compared to the buzzling city where I am from. It is easier to concentrate as there are not many distractions. At the same time, the city of Southampton offers some nice parks and pubs where you can relax whenever a break is needed. Southampton is therefore a great place to study as one can easily strike a work-life balance.
