The availability and willingness of the of Law School staff to answer any queries you may have and to assist in any way possible with your studies is invaluable. This coupled with the support offered by the various student led societies makes for a personal and fulfilling experience, both academically and socially.

There is no denying that Law is an extremely complex subject to study however the intellectual challenge it presents is perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of the degree. Students are encouraged to think for themselves and to form opinions on academic debates and real world legal issues, adding a further dimension to your study.

There are a number of extra-curricular activities available to Law Students provided by staff, fellow students and external organisations and individuals. I became involved in mooting (the debate of a point of law in a fictitious court room setting ) during my first few weeks at Southampton and have had the opportunity to represent the Law School in a number of regional and national competitions. As well as providing me with a number of transferable skills this aspect of my time at Southampton has allowed me to interact and gain advice from legal professionals such as barristers and judges.

Regardless of the path you wish to pursue in your future, legal or otherwise, there is a vast amount of information and support available to students allowing them to take the necessary next steps.

Alongside the academic rigour of studying law, meeting like minded individuals with similar goals and interests has allowed me to form a number of extremely strong friendships during the course of my study. Despite any rumours you may hear, there is a social life to be had as a law student, and the university and city of Southampton provides something to suit everyone.
