News release
From the University Library
19 January 2006
You said, we did
Since the Library launched our new feedback system at the beginning of November we've received quite a few comments from our users.
We're grateful to everyone who's taken the trouble to give us their thoughts and, wherever possible, we have taken action on them.
Here are a couple of the comments, and our responses - you can find even more on our feedback responses page.
Please note: comments have been anonymised and may be paraphrased for clarity and brevity.
Recycling bins at Hartley
"The recycling bin in the Hartley Library's photocopying room is hidden away in the corner. Because it's not obvious, many people put their waste paper in the ordinary bin - so it gets thrown away, instead of recycled.
"It would be more sensible to have the recycling bin in the centre of the room, and to have a smaller general bin."
Initially, temporary recycling bins were placed in all photocopying areas in the Hartley Library. The bins were in prominent positions, and were clearly labelled as recycling bins. Furthermore, notices were displayed, encouraging people to use the recycling facilities.
Since then, we have purchased a number of proper, self-contained recycling bins for the photocopying areas at Hartley.
Wheelchair access door at Hartley
"The wheelchair access door in the Hartley Library foyer is awkward to negotiate - but more importantly, because it is plain glass, it is a potential hazard for people with visual impairments."
We agreed that the glass gate was a hazard for people with visual impairments, and took immediate action to improve its visibility.
This, however, is only a temporary measure - we have asked Estates & Facilities to provide a more professional, permanent solution.
