Fetching service begins 21 August 2006

The project to extend and refurbish level 5 of the Hartley Library is now reaching the next stage, and level 5 will be closed to readers from 21 August 2006.

Many books normally shelved on level 5 have been moved to level 1 and are available on the newly erected mobile shelving at the south end of the floor (adjacent to the microform collection). Those books which we were not able to accommodate in this part of the library will be subject to a fetching service. The table of call numbers, indicating where material can be found, is available.

If you need a book which is subject to fetching, you should:

  • find the record on WebCat
  • place a hold in the usual way

Library staff will then retrieve the book and it will be available for collection at the loans desk in the Hartley Library.

For older items not yet catalogued on WebCat, or for anyone not a member of the Library, please complete a Fetching Service request form at the Loans Desk or email details of your request to loanhart@soton.ac.uk

We will collect books twice daily, Monday to Friday, making them available from 11:00 (for holds placed prior to 10:00) or 14:00 (for holds placed prior to 13:00).

These arrangements will inevitably cause inconvenience and some disruption to normal patterns of library use. We apologise for this, and we are working hard to ensure that this is kept to a minimum. If you have any questions, or experience any difficulties in using the service, please contact us on libenqs@soton.ac.uk or at any library enquiry desk.
