Nineteenth Century House of Commons Papers Online

The Library now has online access to the full text of all 19th Century House of Commons Papers. This comprises some 79,527 documents, in 4.2 million pages, covering all subjects investigated by and reported to parliament. This is a remarkable primary source for those studying and researching constitutional, legal, economic, social, military, and diplomatic history.

In the past researchers at this University have used microfiche or, in special circumstances, and with notice, the fragile paper set which this library holds. The online version offers on and off-campus access when you want it, sophisticated search functions, and the ability to download, print and manipulate the results. A 'download citation tool' even provides references for use with bibliographic software (e.g. EndNote, ProCite).

This new online service complements the Hartley Library's Ford Collection, where we are privileged to house one of the leading collections of British Official Publications in the United Kingdom. For advice on using the Nineteenth Century House of Commons Papers Online, please contact Joy Caisley, the Law and Official Publications Librarian. For basic information on the Ford Collection please see our web pages which are currently undergoing redevelopment.
