Laptop security in the Library

Please look after your laptop, and any other valuables, when you are in the Library. Unfortunately, over the past few weeks several laptops have been stolen from students in the Hartley Library.

Laptops are highly desirable, and easily taken. What's more, if your laptop is stolen, you lose more than just a computer - you lose all the files on it. This may contain a lot of your work, and a lot of personal information.

Laptop security

The best possible advice for laptop security is: "do not leave your laptop unattended".

It's also a good idea to back-up the files on your laptop (or any computer) - particularly the most important ones (this is just good practice anyway).

If you do leave your laptop unattended, then using a security cable is an inexpensive way of ensuring your laptop stays where you left it.

You can buy laptop security cables in many shops on the high street, and from online stores, for just a few pounds (for instance, Play has security cables for under £10, Amazon's list starts at less than £1!). They are also sold in the SUSU shop, for £10.25.
