Hartley Library Phase 2 Refurbishment begins on 12 June

Published: 8 June 2017

Hartley Library Phase 2 refurbishment begins on 12 June 2017 and will complete in late September.

Works will affect all levels of the library apart from Level 3 and will involve some noise and disruption. We will provide advance notice of noisy works wherever possible. Please ask staff for guidance on areas for quieter study.

Main staircase access will be available for Levels 3 and 5 only. Access to Levels 1 and 4 will be via Level 3 back staircase - wayfinding routes will be provided.

  • Level 1 - access to stock and Group Study Rooms only. Other study spaces will be closed for storage of materials which need to be moved.
  • Level 4 - access to Special Collections and Turner Sims area for stock and study only. The central area of Level 4 close to the main staircase will be closed.
  • Level 2 - only the Assistive Technology Service area is affected, access to other areas is as usual.
  • Level 3 - unaffected by the project, access as usual.
  • Level 5 - minimally affected, access to all stock and most study spaces as usual.

To ensure you can access specific stock items you will require when visiting the Hartley Library, please email: libenqs@soton.ac.uk in advance of your planned visit. Many thanks for your patience during these works to improve study and learning space in the Hartley Library.
