About the H.G.T. Library
Hampshire Gardens Trust
The Hampshire Gardens Trust was formed in 1984, the first in the network of County Garden Trusts. It aims to help conserve gardens and parks at risk from neglect or inappropriate development by giving advice on their restoration, re-creation and management. The Trust is also involved in creating new gardens and landscapes and promotes learning about the environment in schools through improvements to school grounds. Activities are recorded in the Hampshire Gardens Trust Journal.
The Hampshire Gardens Trust Library was established at the University Library in 1984 as a reference collection to support its work.

Using the H.G.T. Library
Access
The Hampshire Gardens Trust Library is shelved in the Special Collections open access area on level 4 of the Hartley Library which is on the Highfield Campus. It can be used whenever the Hartley Library is open. If you are not a member of the University, you will need to show a form of ID on arrival at the Library.
Catalogues and arrangement of stock
All Hampshire Gardens Trust Library books and journals are included in WebCat, the online catalogue, and are indicated by the call number prefix and location H.G.T. The WebCat Tutorial shows the most effective ways to search the catalogue. For basic searches use the 'words or phrase' option in Quick Search. Searches can be limited to the H.G.T. Library by selecting that location on the Advanced Searches screen.
The books are arranged by the Library of Congress classification scheme. Many of the books are oversize, (call number prefix 'quarto') and these are shelved after the general stock. H.G.T. journals are shelved after the books.
All H.G.T. material is for reference use only. Members of the Hampshire Gardens Trust can apply for free membership of the Library as External Borrowers.
