Southampton Management School

Honora Smith

Primary position:
Lecturer in Operational Research / Management Science

Background

Honora Smith is a lecturer jointly in Management Science in the Southampton Management School and in Operational Research in the School of Mathematics. After a first degree combining mathematics and OR/MS, she took up employment in the fields of OR and IT, with periods in manufacturing industry, transportation planning, the National Health Service and pharmaceutical industry. A career break then enabled her to bring up a family, while teaching mathematics and IT part-time in a local school. She also gained a qualification in teaching English to speakers of other languages and studied the saxophone too. More recently, Honora renewed her interest in OR with an MSc in OR from the University of Southampton, followed up by a PhD in OR entitled 'Locating sustainable community health facilities', which involved several visits to rural India.
