Mathematics, in all its forms, can provide essential insights into a vast array of practical issues; from modelling the dispersal of dangerous gases to optimising use of a production line or picking the bones out of massive datasets. Whatever the problem, we are likely to be able to find an expert or team able to address it from within Mathematics or our colleagues across the University.

In addition, each year we train around 100 MSc students in the higher level techniques of Statistics applied to Medicine and in Operational Research. Each of these students undertakes a summer project, most on live business problems defined by an external client.
