The school of mathematics offers a range of community outreach activities including mini-lectures, master-classes, and workshops, which are either delivered in local schools and colleges or are provided within the school of mathematics itself.

The National Cipher Challenge is a code breaking competition, which has been successfully run by the School of Mathematics at the University of Southampton for the past several years. It is a competition in which as many as 700 school teams from all around the country compete to decrypt secret messages that uncover a mystery storyline. Who will be first to decode the latest message?

The Meet the Mathematicians (MtM) event is organised as part of the British Applied Mathematics Colloquium (BAMC). It is an ideal opportunity for year 13 students interested in studying mathematics or a related subject at University level to attend lectures and interactive sessions with leading UK scientists.
