Graduate school

Mathematical Sciences has one of the broadest communities of mathematicians in the UK, spanning pure and applied mathematics, statistics and operational research.

Our Graduate School in Mathematical Studies has approximately 150 students following Certificate/Diploma/MSc courses in Statistics or Operational Research or pursuing research leading to MPhil or PhD degrees in a wide range of mathematical fields.

It offers an excellent supported environment for postgraduate study and personal development to help you succeed in your chosen area of research and in your longer term career or academic goals.

Extensive support

We have a lively and thriving community of postgraduate students engaged in research across a range of areas and we support them extensively. Supervisors, who are international experts in their field, provide in depth training. Students are given a personal computer, a desk in a shared office and a conference attendance grant.

We offer a number of competitive bursaries to cover fees and cost of living. The type of funding available depends on the eligibility of candidate.

Training opportunities

We greatly value the training of our students and we offer a wide range of training opportunities. Students have access to all the modules available in the University and specialised in-house postgraduate courses, but also to three National Postgraduate Training Networks in Applied and Pure Mathematics (MAGIC), Operational Research (NATCOR) and Statistics (APTS).

The end result is that our postgraduate students are highly sought after by other universities, business and industry, NGOs and governments worldwide.
