Book fans get the chance to meet award-winning writers
Aspiring writers and literature fans will have the opportunity to hear published authors discuss their work and read passages from their books, in a new series called Writers in Conversation, at Southampton's Nuffield Theatre.
The series, presented by the University of Southampton, kicks off with Philip Hoare, winner of the 2009 Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction, on Monday 6 October at 7.30pm.
Hoare has written about a number of subjects ranging from pop culture icons, such as Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde, to Netley’s wartime past in Spike Island: The Memory of a Military Hospital. His latest work, The Sea Inside, explores our relationship with the sea in a ‘part memoir, part fantastical travelogue’.
Writers in Conversation is a series of three events presented by the University of Southampton, with Andrew Miller, winner of the Costa Prize for Pure, appearing on 10 November and T.S Eliot Prize winner Philip Gross speaking at the Nuffield Theatre on 1 Dec.

I’m so pleased to join up with Nuffield to offer the chance to hear these writers read and talk about their work not only to students, but to the greater Southampton community. These writers belong to all of us.”
