Medicine PhD student Alan Morris, sponsored by Age UK, has won first prize for best poster at the Alzheimer's Research UK 2014 conference.

Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Each year it hosts the UK’s largest dementia research conference which attracts growing numbers of dementia researchers from all over the world. The conference this year took place at Oxford University in the prestigious Saїd Business School and saw 300 attendees over the two day meeting. Each year the David Dawbarn poster prize is presented to the researcher with the best scientific poster. The award is presented in memory Dr David Dawbarn, an internationally acclaimed neuroscientist who sadly passed away in 2010.

All of the research on displayed over the two day conference was of outstanding quality so Alan felt privileged to be awarded the David Dawbarn poster prize this year. The poster outlined Alan’s research looking at how blood vessels in the brain change as we age. The work is particularly focused on how high blood pressure could change the molecular make-up of blood vessels and whether this could contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
