Southampton Doctoral Researcher in Three Minute Thesis National Finals

Doctoral Researcher Nazira Albargothy has made it through to the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) National Finals.

Second-year PhD student Nazira, from the Faculty of Medicine, beat competition from more than 50 doctoral researchers from across the UK. She was chosen as one of six finalists who will compete for the 3MT National Champion title at the Vitae Researcher Development International Conference next month.

Representing the University, Nazira will take to the stage in front of hundreds to present her thesis, with just one slide, in only three minutes.

Nazira is well-versed in the format of the competition, after winning both her Faculty heat and then the University Grand Final earlier this year. With her presentation on ‘mapping the most efficient route for drug delivery into the brain’, Nazira wowed both the audience and the judging panel back in May, to take both the University’s first place and People’s Choice awards.

Jo James, organiser of the Southampton Three Minute Thesis competition, said:

‘The 2016 3MT® Competition was our third to be held at Southampton, and the quality of the entries has risen year on year. We are delighted that Nazira has made it to the National Final, and wish her every success in September.’

First developed by the University of Queensland, the Three Minute Thesis competition is now a global initiative with more than 350 universities taking part.
