In the weeks leading up to your arrival at Southampton, and during your first week, there are a number of things you will need to remember. Our induction programme is designed to help you settle in as quickly as possible, with help or advice available whenever you need it. For most students, 'arrival' means getting to your accommodation a week or so before the start of the teaching year.

International Welcome Programme
We encourage all new international postgraduates to register for our Welcome Programme, specifically designed for our international students. This takes place in September each year and includes general events to introduce you to the University. There will also be academic induction events within your discipline, and a range of social and cultural activities. Find out more about the International Welcome Programme.
Comprehensive Faculty Induction
You will be invited to attend an induction and training programme for new students, which is provided at the beginning of the academic year. Designed to provide you with the basic knowledge and practical skills necessary to commence higher degree research; sessions include ethics, critical appraisal, time management and good laboratory practice. You will meet other students and senior members of the Graduate School, receive an overview of research within Medicine and learn more detailed information about the structure of your degree programme. A comprehensive programme of research skills and statistical training using a range of software packages is also included.
