The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment celebrates 2012 with an Olympic-themed education tour involving 5000 children across the country. Southampton Music students and Head of Early music Liz Kenny have been at the helm of the project in Southampton.

Children in Years 3 to 5 at St Marys and Portswood primary schools have had weekly visits and workshops with university students and staff to help them with their encounter with the orchestra and to learn a vocal Anthem and Fanfare, commissioned for the children to perform with the Orchestra. As part of the OAE's visit, harpsichordist and conductor Steven Devine will work with Southampton keyboard students. There will also be a workshop in Turner Sims run by the OAE's education director Cherry Forbes, as a follow-up to a session with students and primary school teachers last November.

The concert Anthem for a Child Involves 220 children plus a 20 piece baroque orchestra and is on Thursday March 22nd, 1.30pm-2.30pm in the University's Turner Sims Concert Hall. All are welcome to join the OAE, children, parents, teachers and students.
