Music hosted the annual Theory and Analysis Graduate Students (TAGS) Conference of the Society for Music Analysis (SMA) on 21 April. TAGS 2012 was attended by national and international postgraduate students, with delegates from as far afield as Taiwan.

Southampton has long had a close relationship with the SMA: Prof. William Drabkin and Dr Danuta Mirka are both past Vice-Presidents of the Society, Dr David Bretherton is the Society's current Treasurer and Administrator, and PGR student Kirstie Hewlett is currently one of the Society's two student representatives. So we were delighted to host this year's TAGS conference, and were also very pleased that Southampton was strongly represented in the programme by a plenary session (chaired by Dr Bretherton) about the Austrian music theorist Heinrich Schenker, which featured papers by two PGR students in Humanities, Kirstie Hewlett (supervised by Prof. Drabkin) and Georg Burgstaller (supervised by Dr Andrea Reiter in Modern Languages), and a keynote paper by Prof. Drabkin.

Prof. William Drabkin, Dr Andrea Reiter, Dr David Bretherton, Georg Burgstaller and Kirstie Hewlett all work together on the AHRC-funded Schenker Documents Online project; see http://schenkerdocumentsonline.org/ for further information.
