Finnissy Performance in Artforum Best of 2014
George Lewis's list of the top ten new music events of 2014 for Artforum magazine includes a performance of Southampton's Professor Michael Finnissy's A History of Photography in Sound, by pianist Ian Pace.
Lewis describes the 'full spectrum dominance' of Finnissy's five-and-a-half hour magnum opus for piano, which Pace recorded for Métier/Divine Art in 2013. Spring 2015 will see the work featured during a four-day festival devoted to Finnissy's music at Spectrum in New York. During his visit to New York for the festival, Finnissy will lecture at Columbia University, before travelling to Massachusetts for lectures and a concert of his music at Boston University.
