Hugh’s principal research interests are in the field of neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation and his research centres on how inflammation and environmental factors may contribute to the outcome of acute and chronic neurological disease. He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2005 and is Deputy Chair of the Nuffield Council of Bioethics.
