Specialisms: Marine phytoplankton ecophysiology and biogeochemistry

Current areas of active research include:

  • Phytoplankton ecophysiology, including mechanisms of photoacclimation and mechanistic understanding of iron stress.
  • Understanding large scale patterns of nutrient limitation in the modern ocean.
  • Chlorophyll fluorescence and other biophysical techniques.
  • Nutrient limitation of oceanic nitrogen fixation including iron stress physiology.
  • Interactions between nutrient biogeochemistry and ocean circulation, from turbulence, through fronts and mesoscale eddies to global scales.
