Outreach

Our planet, our future - understanding the Earth and oceans
The University of Southampton runs a variety of schemes and activities that are aimed at improving the wider understanding and engagement with ocean and Earth sciences.
The National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS) is host to a wide range of resources, opportunities and information for schools, teachers and the general public.
We hold a number of open days and events throughout the year, which provide opportunities for the public to visit NOCS, meet some of our scientists and find out more about our research. We are always happy to organise tours of our facilities to see science implemented in the working environment, or provide help and advice to teachers or students wishing to apply for a degree through UCAS.
We are also pleased to arrange visits for schools and colleges to deliver thematic talks and practical exercises/demonstrations, particularly if your class is learning about marine science topics. Please contact one of our specialists for further information.
Discover oceanography
We offer the chance to experience 'hands on' science both on dry land at NOCS and aboard our research vessel R.V. Callista.
Marine life public talks
In our monthly series, scientists from NOCS and other local organisations share their research experiences and adventures.
Ocean and Earth Day
A public open day, which welcomes visitors of all ages to join us at NOCS and learn about the Earth and oceans.
Learning resources
Learn more about fossils and rocks with our web-based learning resources for teachers and pupils.
