Dr Mathis Hain is a Visiting Fellow within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton.

I am a geologist by training, but during my PhD studies working with Danny Sigman at Princeton, I pursued a computational approach to study the dual isotope system of nitrate in the modern ocean and to quantify the role of the ocean's biological pump in driving the ice age cycles of atmospheric CO2. In Southampton I will continue to develop geochemical models to better understand the regulation of the global carbon cycle and the nutrient status of the oceans - on millennial, orbital and geological timescales.
