Graduates leave with a competitive edge
Opening up career options

You may be looking for relevant paid employment straight away, or planning to undertake further study – in which case you could become part of Southampton's 5,000-strong postgraduate student community and have access to state-of-the-art learning resources.

You might be considering a switch into a completely different field, or you may be unsure of where to go next. Whatever your situation, the Careers and Employability Service offers a wide range of services and support to students at all stages of their University life.

The vocational elements of our courses mean that a degree is your passport to discipline-related fields. These fields are wide-ranging and include government agencies, conservation and environmental agencies, coastal management and geophysical survey companies, major oil and mining companies and geological service companies. Other fields include local authorities, museums, civil engineering and the construction industry, water boards, universities and allied research institutes.

However, given the personal and transferable skills profiles you will develop, there are considerable employment opportunities not only in areas relating to your degree specialisations, but also in many other areas ranging from accountancy, computer programming, law, management, marketing, retail, to the police force and the armed services.

We pride ourselves in the quality of the graduate students we produce and given our national standing, it is our experience that all well qualified graduates are able to progress into a career of direct relevance to their training, should they wish.
