Southampton’s Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Day 2008: ‘Remember, Reflect, React’
Holocaust Memorial Day is a national event dedicated to the remembrance of victims who perished as a result of the genocide of the Second World War. The chosen date is the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
To mark the UK’s eighth national Holocaust Memorial Day, Southampton's Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Day Committee, in conjunction with Southampton Solent University and Southampton University’s Parkes Institute, will host a commemorative event at the Sir James Matthews Building, Solent University, Above Bar, from 6-7pm on Saturday 26 January 2008.
Local school children and students will read extracts from the experiences of both Jewish victims of Nazi persecution and contemporary refugees from other genocides. The event also features music and will conclude with a short film. All welcome.
