We are thrilled to announce that Philosophy at Southampton has appointed four new permanent lecturers.

Giulia Felappi specialises in philosophy of language and metaphysics. She completed her PhD at King’s College London in 2015. Giulia’s papers have appeared in such journals as Analysis and Synthese, and she presently holds a British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant.

Brian McElwee is an expert in theoretical and applied ethics and has published numerous articles in journals such as Philosophical Quarterly and Utilitas. He received his PhD from the University of St Andrews. Before joining Southampton, he taught at the Universities of Oxford, Warwick and St Andrews.

Will McNeill specialises in epistemology and philosophy of mind. After completing a PhD at University College London, he held teaching positions at the University of Cardiff, the University of York, and King’s College London. Will has published papers in, among other places, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research and Philosophical Studies.

Naomi Thompson’s research interests include metaphysics and philosophy of language, and she has published on these topics in American Philosophical Quarterly and Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society. After receiving her PhD from the University of Birmingham, Naomi taught at the University of Leeds and was a Kit Fine Fellow at Universität Hamburg in Germany.

These additions represent an increase of approximately 30% in the number of permanent academic staff in Philosophy at Southampton – a major expansion of the department. They are sure to make significant contributions to our teaching and research environment.

Welcome Giulia, Brian, Will, and Naomi!
