Prestigious journal prize awarded

Published: 22 October 2009

Dr Clare Saunders has been awarded the inaugural British Journal of Sociology prize at an award ceremony held in London on 6 October 2009.

Clare received the award for her journal article, entitled ‘Double-edged swords? Collective identity and solidarity in the environment movement’ (BJS, vol.59, June 2009).

The BJS is a tremendously prestigious journal, and Clare’s award demonstrates the importance of research being conducting in our division. The biennial prize is given to the author of an article published in the BJS that in the opinion of the judges makes an outstanding contribution to increasing sociological knowledge.

Clare was presented with a cheque for £500 and book tokens worth £50 at the dinner and award ceremony. A short podcast by Clare is available from the BJS webpage.
