Undergraduate

Politics and international relations are at the heart of society
The Division of Politics & International Relations was founded in 1963 and is known as one of the leading divisions of its kind in the UK. Our 300 undergraduates are ably looked after by our experienced teaching staff, including several internationally renowned political scientists and political theorists.
We are committed to ensuring the wellbeing of all of our students and we have an excellent record of few withdrawals and failures. As a new student you will be assigned an academic tutor who will be on hand to support you throughout your degree. We work hard to nurture excellent relations between staff and students, and all our students are encouraged to attend the many research seminars and social events which are held throughout the year.
Thinking of your future
Studying politics and international relations can lead to a broad range of careers – many of our graduates are now working in parliament, banking, media, the public sector, the armed forces and international organisations. Many proceed to higher degrees and then to lectureships and professorships in universities in the UK and overseas.
Student life
Being at university is a very exciting and challenging time. As well as living independently away from home, you have personal responsibility for organising your academic studies. Read what it's really like to study politics and international relations at Southampton.
