We offer all full time, registered* international postgraduate students a place in halls during their first year of study, providing the following criteria are met:
- You make Southampton your Firm choice
- You normally live outside the Southampton City Boundaries
- Your application is received by 1 August in the year in which your studies commence
- You are unaccompanied, i.e. you do not bring any dependants, such as a partner and/or children.
*Full time and studying for a complete academic year
In years of exceptional demand, in order to meet our guarantee we may offer accommodation in twin-shared room at the start of the academic year for a short period. We may also offer accommodation provided by Liberty Living, a private provider who offer good quality rooms in two halls in Southampton, Mercury Point and Orion's Point.
All non-EU international students are guaranteed an offer of accommodation in each of their years of study in Southampton, providing they apply by the relevant deadline. This would be the 1st August in their first year, and before the start of Semester 2 for their second year application.

UK and EU Postgraduate students
If you are a UK, EU or Channel Island postgraduate student, we are unfortuantely unable to guarantee you an offer of accommodation. You can apply online, and we may be able to make you an offer; however this is dependent on room availability. If we are unable to offer you accommodation in Halls of Residence, we can provide advice and assistance with renting accommodation in the private sector.
Private Rented Accommodation
Some students prefer to rent their own accommodation locally. The Accommodation Service can advise students on finding private rented accommodation in Southampton and Winchester as well as guesthouse and hotel accommodation. We also run a housing accreditation scheme in conjunction with Southampton City Council and Southampton Solent University to assist students in finding private accommodation; further details are available at www.sassh.co.uk.
The Service also produces a guide, in conjunction with the Students' Union, with essential advice on renting privately. It also provides a regularly updated list of accredited available private houses and a comprehensive list of letting agencies.
If you wish to find your own accommodation, we would recommend that you visit the University to discuss your needs with the Accommodation Service and view properties in person before you start your course.
