Entry requirements: Master’s degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent (occasionally candidates are admitted with a first- or upper second-class honours degree)

Duration: 3–4 years (full-time); up to 7 years (part-time)

Assessment: Upgrading thesis and seminar from MPhil to PhD; PhD thesis and viva voce

Start date: October (but possible throughout the year)

Intake: 8

Closing date: None, but early application advised

Funding: ESRC studentships may be available

Additional costs: Some fieldwork costs may apply, if this is not covered by your funding. You will receive an annual allowance for photocopying and normal printing facilities, but may need to meet any additional costs

Careers: Academic research; government organisations; market research; recent graduates hold lectureships at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the London School of Economics
