Thesis and Report Binding

Types of Bind.

We offer three bindings: Soft, Comb and Channel from our Copy Shops in building 37 and building 58 on the Highfield Campus.

Soft bound

Bound between manila or departmental covers; wire stitched and a black cloth taped spine; edges cut flush or uncut.

Comb bound
Bound by plastic comb with Acetate front covers and card back covers.

Channel bound

Bound with a Black Hard Cover by a metal channel that clamp's the pages together, this can be provided with or without the University of Southampton Logo.

Hard bound

The University’s approved binding suppliers Caromar Limited and GB Bookbinding Limited will provide hard bound thesis binding services from the 15th of November their contact details are stated below. The following binding is available from these suppliers:

  • Hard bound – Full Bound in Black Arbelave Library Buckram, over sewn, hard case, gold blocked
  • Stiff bound – Quarter bound with reinforce endpapers; hinged stiff boards laminated with manila or departmental covers; wire stitched and a black cloth taped spine; edges cut flush or uncut.
  • Soft bound – Bound between manila or departmental covers; wire stitched and a black cloth taped spine; edges cut flush or uncut.
