Demonstrating / teaching opportunities

In Psychology we can offer postgraduates a number of opportunities to support undergraduates' learning.

As a teaching assistant you will not only be contributing to our undergraduate teaching, you’ll also be improving your own skills and experience. The skills you gain will enhance your CV and give a significant boost to your next career move, whether you are looking to remain in academia or move into industry.

The Postgraduate Induction to Learning and Teaching (PILT) comprises two credit-bearing modules of study that allow PhD students to acquire up to 30 credits towards an educational qualification at masters level. (These modules are optional and are typically completed during the second- and third- years of PhD study for full-time students.) Successful completion of these units leads to professional recognition by the UK Higher Education Academy (HEA) at Associate level, and permits the use of the post-nominal letters 'AHEA'. PILT is recognised by HEA as equivalent to the first part of the University's PCAP programme, and will be recognised by other UK HEIs accordingly.

PILT is administered by the University of Southampton's Learning and Teaching Enhancement Unit (LATEU).
