Delegation of Senate Powers – Educational Quality and Standards
The Governance of the University is set out in our Charter. The Statutes, listed in the University Calendar, include a description of the powers of the Council and of the Senate.
The role of the Senate (subject to the Statutes of the University and the control and approval of the Council) is to ‘regulate and superintend the education and discipline of students and of undergraduates of the University.’ To improve the effectiveness of the conduct of University business, and enable as many decisions as possible to be taken by those with direct responsibility for the conduct of this business, Senate has delegated some of its powers for some activities which fall within its remit in respect of educational provision to Faculties and Schools.

The Terms of Reference of Education Committee and Academic Quality and Standards committee (AQSC) are approved by Senate and Council. Both are available from the Calendar, and an annual schedule of work for AQSC is available from the LATEU website (see links on right).
The powers and responsibilities of Faculties and of Schools are also available.
