Ocean and Earth Science
NOCS is one of the world’s leading institutions devoted to research, teaching and technology development in Ocean and Earth Science
Ocean and Earth Science (OES) is a major component of the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), a joint venture between the University of Southampton and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).
NOCS is one of the world’s leading institutions devoted to research, teaching and technology development in Ocean and Earth Science. The research mission of NOCS is to sustain international excellence, to play a key role in developing national and international research programmes, and to become Europe’s leading academic centre for oceanography and marine geoscience.
Six research groups now exist across NOCS: Physical Oceanography, Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems, Geology and Geophysics, Palaeoceanography and Palaeoclimate, Geochemistry, and Coastal Processes. All research staff, whether employed through the NERC Strategic Research Division (NSRD) or through the Ocean and Earth Science academic unit, are associated with one of these groups.
