S3RI researcher, Professor Sujit Sahu, has been awarded a research grant from the Gates Foundation

Published: 31 July 2014

The grant is for about US$437,677 for a period of two years jointly with Geography and will fund an S3RI post-doc over the two years starting September 2014.

The grant itself is on Sentinel Epidemiology and Etiology Data (SEED) network and disease mapping in Africa.

"the SEED will produce population-based pathogen-specific incidence of severe disease (moderate to severe diarrhea, severe or very severe pneumonia, severe febrile illness and uncategorized severe illness) from 20-25 sites in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.  We will also collect mortality data through verbal autopsies, which will enable mortality rate and cause-specific mortality rates to be calculated from each site.  With this grant we are preparing to make to you, we hope you will develop the statistics to interpolate the SEED data across geographies."
