Research project: Representativity indicators for survey quality (RISQ)

Currently Active:
Yes

This three year project, funded by the European 7th Framework Programme, is a collaboration between the National Statistical Institutes of Norway, the Netherlands and Slovenia, and the Universities of Leuven and Southampton which will develop quality indicators for survey response.

These indicators measure the degree to which the group of respondents of a survey resemble the complete sample originally drawn.

In survey practice, response rates are almost always computed. It is also important to have an indication of the degree to which respondents and nonrespondents differ. This is seldom derived because it requires information on characteristics of households or enterprises that did not respond to the survey. When information is available from other sources such as population or business registers, the degree of difference can be partly measured. The RISQ project aims to translate this auxiliary information into 'Representativity Indicators', and to develop the indicators, explore their characteristics and show how to implement and use them in practical surveys. Further information is available on the RISQ website.

The project is led at Southampton by Natalie Shlomo and Chris Skinner, in conjunction with Gabriele Durrant and Ana Marujo.
