You must enrol as a student as soon as possible and in any event before the end of the enrolment period.

You should enrol online at www.soton.ac.uk/enrol.   In order to enrol you will need your unique student ID number which you will have been sent with your welcome information.

Following enrolment, when you arrive at the University you should collect your University of Southampton ID card from your School.

If your programme lasts longer than one year you must ensure that you re-enrol each year before the end of the enrolment period.


Visa, Passport and Identity ‘Check In’

The University must tell the UK Border Agency if students holding a visa to come to the University of Southampton do not arrive.  As a result we have to know who has arrived as soon as possible.

If you have renewed your visa recently, you MUST attend 'Check In' at the Registry Services Office, Room 2035,Building 37:

 

‘Check in’ events will be included in the Pre-Sessional English Language programme induction organised by the School.

 

Please bring the following ORIGINAL documents to the identity check with Registry Services:

  • Your passport
  • Your visa, leave stamps or immigration status document showing your permission to stay in the UK
  • Your biometric identity card
  • You university student ID number that was sent to you in the summer in the welcome information

Term Time Dates

The University term and holiday dates will vary according to the programme you are studying.   Postgraduate programmes will have different term and holiday dates from undergraduate programmes and the term and holiday dates may also vary according to the subject and School.

You will need to ensure that you are following the term and holiday dates relevant to your programme.   For details of term and holiday dates applicable to your programme please contact your School office.

If you are a PhD Student you will only be entitled to a limited number of weeks holiday per year.  For details of your holiday entitlement please check with your School.

If you are a postgraduate student (which includes students following Masters and other taught post graduate programmes as well as PhDs) you will not be permitted to work full time whilst you are writing up your thesis, dissertation or project.


Providing Your Contact Details

You must provide the University with your contact details which should include:

  • Your residential address in the United Kingdom
  • Your home telephone number in the United Kingdom
  • Your mobile telephone number (if you have a mobile telephone)

You must ensure that these details are kept up to date at all times by informing the University of any changes.

You can input this information directly. You will be asked to input your username and password which you should have obtained when you enrolled and subscribed.  You must input this information as soon as you arrive in the UK.


Length of Leave to Remain in the UK

If you wish to remain in the UK after the expiry of your visa you will need to make an application for another visa.

You must therefore check the date of expiry of your visa and make sure that if you wish to remain in the UK you have made an application for another visa before this date.

If you wish to follow another programme at the University you will have to ensure that you have applied for another visa accordingly.
