This talk and chaired debate will highlight the impact of anthropogenic activities on our environment, including some very famous pollution disasters. The focus will be on how we can learn from our mistakes and protect our environment for current and future generations.

Why this is important

Environmental pollution has numerous significant impacts:

Air pollution is estimated to cause ~2 million premature deaths worldwide each year

16,928 species are threatened with extinction;

1.1 billion people lack access to safe water and 2.6 billion lack access to basic sanitation.
