Professor Terence G. Langdon wins the Bulk Nanostructured Materials Honours Award for 2009

Terence G. Langdon, Research Professor of Materials Science and Director of the Centre for Nanostructured Materials in the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Southampton, has received the "Bulk Nanostructured Materials Honours Award for 2009" at The 2nd International symposium "Bulk nanostructured materials (BNM-2009)", held in Ufa, Russia, on 22-26, 2009. Prof. Langdon was cited for "for a remarkable contribution to the development of bulk nanostructured materials."

Interest in the processing of bulk nanostructured materials is continuing to grow around the world to the extent that processing by severe plastic deformation (SPD) has now become of major importance in the field of materials science. This BNM-2009 symposium followed on from an earlier successful symposium (BNM-2007) held in Ufa on 14-18 August 2007. The main goal of the symposium was to outline and formulate the key problems and the most promising ways toward the innovative application of bulk nanomaterials.

The symposium mainly covered the following topics: Processing of Bulk Nanomaterials; Structural Characterization,  Physical and Mechanical Properties; Innovation Trends in the Sphere of Nanomaterials; Commercialization of Nanomaterials and Modeling of Nanomaterials. Nearly 300 scientist representing over 20 countries took part in this symposium.
