Fantastic Forces
An innovative project will see Year 8 Salisbury High School students working with researchers from University of Southampton and staff from the Nuffield Theatre. The project aims to engage and inspire students into Science and Engineering by highlighting the link between Science and the Arts through interactive workshops and hands-on design challenges.
New global initiative to assess Haiti earthquake damage
26 January 2010 Volunteers from the University’s Schools of Engineering Sciences and Electronics, Geography and Computer Science worked with the Surrey office of Californian research company ImageCat, to provide an accurate and comprehensive assessment of the extent of the devastation.

Interview with Prof. Terry Langdon on Magnesium Alloy Sheets:
Pod Cast: The review article “Principles of Equal-Channel Angular Pressing as a Processing Tool for Grain Refinement” by Ruslan Z. Valiev and Terence G. Langdon was published in Progress in Materials Science in 2006. This paper is now receiving more than 150 citations each year and it is the most cited paper to appear in the journal in 2006.

The 15th Postgraduate Conference in Engineering Materials, Bio-Engineering and Tribology
The 15th Postgraduate conference was successfully held on 2nd October 2009 at the Lyndhurst Park Hotel in the New Forest. A total of 88 academics and PhD students from the Engineering Materials and Bioengineering Research Groups and the newly established national Centre for Advanced Tribology at Southampton (nCATS) in School of Engineering Sciences (SES) at University of Southampton and 7 industrial experts from companies who sponsor our PhD programmes joined the one-day conference. Additionally 12 support staff from the research groups and the Armourers and Brasiers medal winners and their families also joined at the conference lunch.
