Eight undergraduate students will represent the University at Spark India 2016 – a social entrepreneurship bootcamp taking place in Mumbai, India.

For two weeks in July and August, the students will work alongside students from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) to launch social ventures, aimed at improving lives in Mumbai and the surrounding areas.

Alongside working on the projects, the students will also get the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and knowledge of the Indian social enterprise ecosystem through an intensive programme of skills development sessions and local study visits.

The students were selected for their dedication and enthusiasm for social entrepreneurship, which they demonstrated through curricular and extra-curricular activities during their time at the University. Speaking about his hopes for the programme, 3rd year International Relations student Andreas Ostrovsky-Pereira said:

“Spark India offers an incredible opportunity to experience how Social Enterprises are set up and work in India. I hope to learn different approaches to identifying problems and tailoring solutions, as well as hoping to engage with like-minded individuals to continue to inspire my growth as a social entrepreneur.”
