Marwell’s Kenyan operations focus on the restoration of wildlife and semi-arid rangelands in the north of the country, contributing to a wider goal of enhancing the livelihoods of pastoralist communities. Work is carried out in partnership with community based organisations, statutory authorities and non-governmental partners across this landscape.
MRes projects will contribute to longitudinal studies of threatened large mammals and their interactions with livestock, people and the wider environment. Examples include movement patterns and resource use of collared Grevy’s zebras; evaluating effectiveness of elephant corridors; understanding impacts of large carnivore initiatives; and comparing effectiveness and efficiency of wildlife survey methods.
Students will be based at the Marwell Research Camp at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. They will be expected to work closely with the Lewa Research Department to support their wider work and to support local students and community conservancy managers during their time in the field.

The project costs include field work in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya. Travel from UK airports, within country travel, accommodation and meals, and use of a fieldwork vehicle are all covered (students will be required to make their own way to and from UK airports).
