Interdisciplinary teaching award for Maritime Law Associate Professor

Ozlem Gurses

SMMI Member Dr Özlem Gürses will be a recipient of a Vice -Chancellor's Teaching Award for her work on the Engineering Management and Law module delivered to students of the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment.

Along with two colleagues, Ozlem has been part of the team who have transformed this module into one where students see relevance to their professional development and future employment and where many students produce work of an exceptionally high quality. The module, delivered to approximately 200 students per year, has been closely integrated with the more more technical engineering curriculum through strong links with other activities undertaken by Part II students as well as through involvement of industrial partners. This is a remarkable achievement, not least because it has been carried out across module boundaries, across faculty boundaries and, through simultaneous delivery at USMC, across national boundaries as well.

Congratulations to Özlem for her award.

Notes for editors

USMC is the University of Southampton's Malaysia Campus at which Ozlem teaches during the year.

Other colleagues involved in this module are Richard Wills (from Faculty of Engineering and the Environment) and Roy Edwards (from Faculty of Business Law and Art).
