Hi, I'm Rhys Davies and I studied BSc Applied Social Science within Social Sciences: Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Southampton.

It was a great three years: with brilliant lecturers and it gave good me all-round general skills that you use on a day-to-day basis.

Listen to Rhys' interview by downloading the audio file from the right hand side of the page.

Rhys graduated with an Applied Social Sciences degree and started work in community care as a team leader in a supported living scheme for adults. In addition to providing support to these adults, he was also responsible for supervising staff, care planning, quality auditing and advocacy.  After two years, he became a senior social work assistant for a children with disabilities team. He also helps to organise short breaks for people with physical disabilities.

Rhys says: "I really enjoyed the 'applied' part of the Social Science course as it made it relevant to a potential job. It brought to light the contemporary use of the degree and I liked the fact that you could relate it to an area that interests you and where you might want to pursue a future job. Also, I think the degree gave me a general tool kit to apply to a range of vocations. I think as long as you are working with people it will always be relevant."
