Southampton sociologists and academics in social policy and applied social sciences explore a wide range of issues in their work.

Our research was ranked third in the country in the 2008 research assessment exercise. We host programmes in sociology, sociology and social policy, and applied social sciences (anthropology, criminology, criminology and psychological studies and the general pathway). Our academics from these disciplines explore topical areas such as crime, education, work and social inequality. This research informs their teaching, so you will learn directly from specialists about these fascinating subjects.

“I chose Southampton partly because of the course content and the good reputation of the division, but also because I liked the campus and the friendly atmosphere when I visited on the open day.”
