Definitions of UK, EU and international students
UK student: anyone whose main, permanent, place of residence during the last three years has been in the UK, and who was NOT in the UK primarily for the purposes of being educated, qualifies as a UK-based candidate. There are also some other (exceptional) ways of qualifying as UK-based – mainly applying to migrant workers who were recruited to the UK for specific jobs.
EU student: most people whose main, permanent, place of residence during the last three years has been in the European Union but not in the UK, will qualify as EU candidates.
International student: all those who do not quality as UK-based or EU candidates are regarded as overseas candidates.
