Research

We encourage interdisciplinary research across all of our divisions and across the University as a whole

We encourage interdisciplinary research across all of our divisions and across the University as a whole

Our academics are world-leading researchers in these key subjects – ageing/gerontology, economics, politics and international relations, social statistics and demography, social work, and sociology, social policy and applied social sciences.

Our research culture fuses specialist research excellence and world-class interdisciplinary work across the social sciences. We lead many collaborations across the University and are forging a number of strategic external partnerships with government departments and other international agencies.

Recognition of quality research

Research across Social Sciences was praised for its excellence in the last research assessment exercise (RAE 2008).

Interdisciplinary, cutting-edge research

Much of our research is carried out in our specialist research centres. Academics work across traditional boundaries, sharing expertise, to address some of society's most pressing issues.

Working with our partners

Academics from Social Sciences work collaboratively with an array of international partner organisations. We are at the forefront of innovative social research.
