MSc in Marine Science, Policy and Law

This taught postgraduate Masters degree programme provides specialised training in the skills required for the development of a career in international science-based policy in areas related to the protection and management of the marine environment.

Graduates will be enabled to acquire a broad knowledge of the multi-disciplinary science that underpins environmental policy making and an introduction to international law particularly focussing on policy related issues. Key skills in evidence based policy making will be developed through workshops underpinned by development of advanced level understanding of policy in specialist case studies. The programme involves study of marine science at Masters level and requires a sound scientific background at first degree level.

Two pathways will be offered at the outset; International Boundaries & Resources and Climate Change & Environmental Protection. The project work will involve a placement in a relevant area of policy making and a dissertation prepared under the supervision of a member of University staff.
