NOCS Research Groups

Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems

Ocean Biogeochemistry and EcosystemsThe OBE Group comprise some sixty staff and forty PhD students, and is among the largest and most active international research teams studying the biogeochemistry and biodiversity of pelagic and benthic ocean systems.

Ocean Observing and Climate

Ocean Observing and ClimateThe oceans are an important part of the Earth's climate system. The climate is changing rapidly, partly as a result of our interference with it. The Ocean Circulation and Climate research group is looking at the role of the ocean in changing climate.

Geochemistry

GeochemistryGeochemistry comprises more than 30 researchers and post-graduate students who apply state of the art geochemical analysis and modelling to scientific questions of major societal, economic and environmental importance.

Coastal Processes

Coastal ProcessesThe role of the Coastal Processes Group is to enhance our understanding of the character and evolution of the coastal zone through multi-disciplinary scientific research.

Geology and Geophysics

Geology and GeophysicsThe Geology and Geophysics Research Group includes about 60 staff and PhD students. We are among the most active research groups in this field in Europe.

Ocean Modelling and Forecasting

Ocean Modelling and ForecastingThe Ocean Modelling and Forecasting Group has world-class expertise in high resolution ocean modelling, with embedded models of marine biogeochemistry and sea-ice. We are also developing innovative models of the climate system.

Palaeoceanography and Palaeoclimate

Palaeoceanography and PalaeoclimateWe seek to understand past changes in the Earth System, an essential context for future climate prediction. Our research is global in scope covering the Arctic, through the equatorial Pacific to the Southern Ocean.
